アロンダイト

アロンダイト（英語: Aroundight^[1][2], Aroundyȝt^[3]）は、中世イギリスの騎士道物語詩に登場する剣。

概要

俗にアーサー王物語に登場する騎士ランスロットの剣とされているが、『ブリタニア列王史』（12世紀中頃）や『アーサー王の死』（15世紀後半）などの、いわゆる「アーサー王伝説に属する作品」には登場していない。

初めてその名が登場するのは、14世紀初頭の中英語詩『(ハンプトンのビーヴェス卿（ビーヴィス卿）)（英語版）』^[4]の(異本)（ケンブリッジ大学キーズ学寮蔵 175 写本など）である。アロンダイトはこの詩の中で(ビーヴェス卿)（英語版）の息子ガイ卿の剣として登場するが、同時に「元々はランスロットの剣であった」という故事が語られている^{[1][注 1][注 2]}。

近現代に入り、(エベニーザ・コバム・ブルーワー)（英語版）の故事成句辞典『(Dictionary of Phrase and Fable)（英語版）』（1898年）^{[7][注 3][8]}や、コンピュータゲーム・TRPG系の出版社である新紀元社発行の武器資料集『聖剣伝説』（1997年）などで、出典が定かでないにもかかわらず「ランスロットの剣の名はアロンダイト」と紹介されたため、この認識が広まった。

また、一説ではランスロットが逃亡する際、この剣で戦友ガウェインの弟たちを切り殺してしまったことから魔剣に堕ちたとされている。

オリヴィエはハンプトンのビーヴィス卿の末裔。ビーヴィス卿は円卓の騎士ランスロット卿の佩刀アロンダイトを何らかの形で入手した人物で、彼の息子ガイが使用した。後に時を経て「オートクレール（この設定はイタリア語の著書によるものなので、アルタキエラとなっている）」と名を変え、オリヴィエに受け継がれた。
