関係 (数学)

この項目では、関係の集合論的概念について説明しています。一般の場合については「二項関係」を、その他の用法については「関係 (曖昧さ回避)」をご覧ください。

集合 X₁, …, X_k 上の関係 L とは、それらの直積の部分集合 L ⊆ X₁ × … × X_k である。

関係は集合の個数 k により分類される。

• Lu は(単項関係)あるいは性質を表す。
• Luv あるいは uLv は二項関係を表す。
• Luvw は(三項関係)（英語版）を表す。
• Luvwx は四項関係を表す。

集合 X₁, …, X_k は(定義域)と呼ばれる。すべての X_j が同じ集合 X のとき、L を X 上の k 項関係と呼ぶ。
