リオバンバ地震

リオバンバ地震 (Riobamba earthquake) は、1797年2月4日に、エクアドルのリオバンバ付近で発生したマグニチュード8.3の大地震。揺れは3〜4分間続き、およそ70.3kmにわたって破壊が起きたという^[1][2]。地震により、リオバンバの都市は完全に破壊された。地滑りなどが発生し、6,000〜40,000人の死傷者が出た。元々リオバンバは1534年に、現在地よりも西約20kmの地点に集落として建設されたが、この地震からの再建後は現在地に移転されている^[3][4]。
